Why Did God Make Satan?
2011-06-10 08:39
In heaven, the dragon led angels astray, and on earth, the ancient serpent is leading men astray. It is written, "The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him." (Revelation 12:9).

In heaven, the dragon led angels astray to abandon their own home, and on earth, the serpent led men astray to become like God, to know good and evil, and to surely die. He is called the devil, or Satan, whose angels are called the demons.

The dragon is the ancient serpent, and the ancient serpent is the dragon. God made that ancient serpent. It is written, "Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, 'Did God really say, You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" (Genesis 3:1). And so, the Bible said, "The great dragon was hurled down--that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray."

It is the devil who holds the power of sin and death. It is written, "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death--that is, the devil--and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham's descendants. For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people." (Hebrews 2:14-17).

If we want to be set free from the power of the devil--the power of sin and death, there is no other way except that we are crucified with Jesus who came as a man and the body of sin is done away with. And so, the way to be set free from the power of sin and death is the message of the cross.

God made the ancient serpent so that Satan can rule over sin and death. No one born of blood, of the flesh, or of the will of man, can be set free from Satan who holds the power of sin and death.

There is no other way to be set free from sin and death, except the only one way, the message of the cross. Therefore, the Bible says about the way, "For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin--because anyone who has died has been freed from sin." (Romans 6:6-7).

God has made all men pass through sin and death so that they may obtain righteousness and eternal life in His only begotten son Jesus, whom He loves. It is written, "For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all." (Romans 11:32).

Because in the world there is something they musn't touch, children come to know what is like to be in their mom's bosom. Likewise, God let Satan be in the flesh and blood so that we can take up our cross and put off the flesh and blood, following Jesus, and enter with him the eternal rest of God.

The Lord Jesus spoke about it in a parable, "Jesus continued: There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the estate.' So he divided his property between them. Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.' So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let's have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.' So they began to celebrate." (Luke 15:11-24).

God our Father made us be born in the natural body of sin, and be bound to the devil who holds the power of death, and now be moved from death to life through the Lord Jesus; He ought to be praised for ever and ever. "Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!" (Romans 11:33). Amen.

"And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him." (1 John 4:16). Amen. Thank you, Lord.
