I And the Father Are One
2007-04-07 23:17
"For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son to have life in himself." (John 5:26).
The life of the Father and that of the Son are one as the life of seed and that of grain are one. Therefore, Christ Jesus, the Son of God, said, "I and the Father are one." (John 10:30). It is because the life is one.
It seems that seed dies in order to produce grain. In fact, seed does not die, but it lives in grain. So the Word of Truth says about seed, "For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God." (1 Peter 1:23).
The Father, the imperishable seed, who is alone immortal, suffered with the death of His Son when Christ Jesus was crucified and made perfect as the Son. The Bible says about the sufferings of the Father, "It was now about the sixth hour, and darkness came over the whole land until the ninth hour, for the sun stopped shining. And the curtain of the temple was torn in two. (Luke 23:44-45).
The life of the Father was made complete in His Son, and he was declared to be the Son of God by his resurrection. It is written, "and who through the Spirit of holiness was declared with power to be the Son of God by his resurrection from the dead: Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 1:4).
There is already grain in imperishable seed, but the grain in seed is not true grain. The grain that comes from the death of seed is true grain. It is written, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain." (John 12:24).
Therefore, the Lord Jesus, the Son, said, "I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me." (John 17:23). That means life is one.
The grains of wheat that are made complete unite with Christ Jesus and will together inherit the kingdom of God. It is written, "Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers." (Hebrews 2:11). And again, "I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:11).
Today, many people get confused in understanding the meaning of these words: "I and the Father are one." (John 10:30). They may falsely think that it means this: "I am the Father, the Father is I." However, we can clearly know what it means if we read the following words.
It is writen, "'I and My Father are one.' Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, 'Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?' The Jews answered Him, saying, 'For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God.' Jesus answered them, 'Is it not written in your law, 'I said, You are gods'? If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God''?" (John 10:30-36).
As it is written, "Jesus answered them, 'Is it not written in your law, 'I said, You are gods'? If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken), do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God''?", Jesus is not God, but the Son of God whom God sanctified and sent into the world.
Therefore, if anyone believes Jesus as God, his faith is false. Jesus is not God, but the Son of God. So the Bible strongly says, "Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God." (John 5:5). Those who believe Jesus as God cannot overcome the world.
Seed and grain is not one, but the life of seed and grain is one. Also, the Father and the Son is not one, but the life of the Father and the Son is one. Therefore, this is the complete confession of faith: "...You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." (Matthew 16:16). Thank you, Lord.
